Soresu relied on tight bladework and subtle dodges to provide maximum defensive coverage, minimizing exposure to ranged weaponry. Niman had a fairly relaxed focus on bladework, designed as a simple, easily mastered fighting form for Jedi who preferred to devote most of their time to study and diplomacy, though it was absolutely deadly in the hands of a skilled practitioner. Force Abilities: Force speed - Force power that allows the user to maintain sprinting speeds for a brief time. Force cloak - rarely seen Force talent involving the manipulation of light and sound waves to render a practitioner virtually invisible to the naked eye. Force stealth - a power that was used by highly skilled Force-sensitives to mask their Force alignment (Light or Dark), their ability to use the Force, or even their entire presence from other Force sensitives. Force sight - enhances the bearer's visual and spatial perception even in the dark or behind walls. Farseeing - the ability to gain vague impressions of events happening in other places or times using the Force. These visions focused on strong imagery and emotions. The future is always in motion, however, and is thus subject to change. Force Empathy - a Force power related to Force Sense, but involved picking up impressions of an individuals emotional state. Telepathy - the very basic ability to mentally communicate over small or vast distances with other individuals. Telekinesis - a neutral ability that most Force-sensitives had. With it, they could lift objects according to their concentration and move them, hovering the items in any direction. Force Jump/Leap - uses the Force to augment the user's natural leaping ability. Force-users adept in this technique could perform awe-inspiring vertical/horizontal leaps with impunity. Force Pull/Push - A telekinetic ability using the Force that could cause a material body to draw close to the caster or the ability to create a telekinetic impulse via the Force, launching a concussive burst of pressurized air-not unlike the blast of an archaic 'pipe bomb'-that would impact a target with enough force to knock it over, launch it into the air, or even shatter it into pieces. VIII. Background Information Starting Location: Ossus History:- Read Family Information:
Family Information Her mother, Samantha, being a stay home mom and her father being a Tibanna gas trader. Gas trading is a very lucrative business, so her family was of a fairly high status, earning her Father a position on the guild council. Her father, unfortunately, was also secretly trading some Tibanna to the Empire. Leading to the council finding out and refusing the shipment to be delivered. Angry to hear about this, the Sith Lord leading the Imperial Troops lead an attack on the Platform that Mason lived on, killing many, including Mason.
- Read Further into "Early Life":
Early Life The Silence Before the Storm "Samantha, I just want you to know I never intended for things to end up like this..." -Mason to Samantha after Mason learns of the failed shipment Karissa's Father, Mason Marr, was doing underhanded dealings with the Empire. Due to this, he was called in to speak with the council. During this meeting, Mason was stripped of his rank and status in the council and denied the requested Tibanna gas for sale. Unsure what to do next, Mason decided to head home. On his way home, he received a Holomessage from the Imperial Captain asking about the Tibanna gas. Mason explained the situation, but the Captain didn't seem very pleased. The Captain informed Mason that the Gas would be collected one way or another, and that he had two days to come up with it before they decided to take it by force. At that, the Holomessage ended. Mason quickly rushed home to explain the situation to his wife and asked her what he should do. She had no solution for him to go by except for pleading to the council for help. So Mason head back to the council for help, which was again denied. His Death Comes With Red "Quick! Get the Children out of here!" -Mason to Samantha moments before his death After the two days was up, with no solution in hand, Mason had no idea what was to happen next. He received another Holomessage informing him his time was up, and that they would be seeing him soon. Knowing his time was growing short he decided to spend the day with his family. Samantha immediately knew that something was wrong and asked him about it. He explained the Holomessage he had received that day and that he probably only had a few days left. He couldn't have been more wrong. Unbeknownst to him, Imperial Shuttles were landing as he spoke, and disembarking one of these shuttles, was the Sith Lord, Darth Naga. Naga was actually the one leading the Imperial Forces and certainly wasn't going to hesitate to take what he wanted. Republic forces responded to the landing craft a little to late as the Imperials entered the Residential District. The Imperials lost few men to the Republic forces as most were mere civilians who decided to take up arms against them. Naga killed men, women and children in his search for Mason. Mason noticed Naga's approach and hurried his wife and children along before needing to move into the path of a thrown saber, stabbing him through the chest and sending him to the ground. Naga approached and ended him in a swift slash before ordering his troops to move in on the Tibanna Gas platforms to collect their dues and depart. Naga finished his assault on the platform just moments after the actual Rebublic troops arrived. Naga escaped losing few men, and with a wide grin on his face. Selflessness of the Caring "Here Roarin, I have your breakfast today" -Rebecca Marr to Roarin Kasynel The deaths of all the people the previous day hit hard. It was a quiet few weeks, many lost a close member of their family, and that was no different for Karissa's family. Where as Samantha Marr coped with tears for her husband, Rebecca Marr coped by hoping those in need. Her overwhelming generosity was focused on a boy by the name of Roarin Kasynel. Every morning she would give Roarin some breakfast, and sure enough, he would show up every morning. This continued for 4 years until Rebecca and Karissa were sent off planet to Ossus because of the discovery of their force sensitivities. Karissa would occasionally go with her sister to feed the boy, but it was quite obvious she was never noticed by either of them. Roarin and Rebecca both would seem to enter their own world when they were together. Karissa would just sit by and watch the two chit chat about nothing in particular. Oddly enough, Rebecca would never seem even the slightest bit upset when she was with Roarin, and he was the same way. After Rebecca and Karissa's journey off world, the boy slowly began to show up less frequently until he just stopped all together.
- Read into "Jedi Training":
Jedi Training Arrival to Ossus "Come with me young one, here we will teach you the ways of the Force" -a Jedi instructor speaking to Karissa after disembarking the ship Karissa's arrival on Ossus seemed like a long one. She exited the transport ship only to be separated from her sister and taken to a council chamber by a strange man she didn't know. This man was an instructor at the Jedi Academy and intended to add Karissa and her sister alike to their ranks. She followed the man hoping to learn what he had to teach due to her peaked curiosity. He brought her to the Academy and escorted her around the grounds. They would teach her everything she would ever need to learn to protect the people of the Galaxy. She observed many of the practices at the Academy, including the training of various Saber forms and Hand-to-Hand combat forms. Just as well, she even visited some of the classroomesc settings that she would be learning Academics in. All this seemed to light a spark of aspiration in her heart and she was more than happy to participate. Wolf Clan "Welcome to the Wolf Clan Initiate." -Wolf Clan Instructor, Quen-Do Mil Karissa and Rebecca were separated into different Clans, Karissa into the Wolf Clan and Rebecca into the Bear Clan. The Clan step is the first part of her initiation into the Jedi Academy. Upon arriving at the Temple, Initiates were sorted into one of a host of clans by fosterers who used the Force to place each child. Each clan was made up of about ten Initiates who lived and studied together for a little over a decade. Each clan was tended to by a trained instructor who would lead their charges in the early exercises, guide them to meals in the refectories, and ensure that they were assimilating well into Jedi life. This was no different for Karissa. She trained and studied with her fellow Clan-mates just like a true Wolf Pack for about a decade. Ascension "You have shown me great promise, and I believe I can help shape you into a truly fine Jedi" -Tyria Tiovata, Jedi Knight Karissa had reached a point in her training that Quen-Do Mil felt she was ready to rise to the rank of Padawan and move away from the Academy and begin her true training as a Jedi, a task her sister had accomplished many years before her. The first test was designed to test her knowledge of the Jedi Code. A vital part of Jedi teachings, the Code was reviewed over and over throughout an Karissa's life, typically everyday during meditation and class. The consequence for failure was being removed from the Order. Karissa wouldn't let this come to pass and recited the Mantra with enthusiasm and Vigor as if it was her very soul... "There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no chaos, there is harmony. There is no death, there is the Force."
As she finished it was if the very words she spoke rang through her soul, giving her a sense of pride in what it is she has accomplished over the years. The second test was a test of Meditation and of Saber arts. The Saber arts test she passed without a need for hesitation. Her Meditation test did not go so well as she had issues keeping her mind at ease. This trial had every nerve in her on edge, which was beginning to effect her performance. Near the end however, she managed to calm herself and pass the test. The final test was the one that would be a true challenge. Her final test was the test of her knowledge of the force. This test took place over the span of 4 hours of instructor questioning of the pupil. She managed to ace the test all the same, slowly beginning to follow in the footsteps of her sister. Her Academy Trials were complete, and she would be allowed to progress to the rank of Padawan. The only thing remaining, was a master to choose her. It was time for the Jedi Temple Apprentice Tournament. She moved to the Tournament grounds with the glow of excitement around her. The rules of the competition were simple. Three strikes from a training saber. That's all she needed to get on her opponent to defeat them. She entered the ring with another Initiate and the began their duel. The trading of blows was equal, each sustaining two blows. In a desperate effort she lunged with her blade and it was deflected out of her hand. She dodged the other Initiates attacks as well as she could as she awaited an opportune moment to recover. She managed to grab the Initiates wrist and put him into a Wrist Lock forcing him to drop his training saber. The Initiate almost immediately dropped to his knees and submitted. Karissa released him and a smile began to grow across her face. This was quickly dashed as the Initiate grabbed his saber and struck her for the last blow, therefore declaring him the winner. Karissa gloomily walk over and sat against the wall as she observed her failure to remember that the rules were three saber strikes, so a submission wasn't legally counted as a loss. As she sat and sulked, a woman approached her with a smile on her face, and gave her the news she thought she wasn't going to hear because of that loss. She had just gained the Rank of Padawan, and the Master to prove it. Funeral Rites Karissa's time as a Padawan went well for the next two years as she trained and traveled around the galaxy with her Master. This was until they got the solemn news of Rebecca Marr and Her Master's death. To this, Tyria thought in necessary to return to Ossus for the burial rites. The journey back to Ossus was as quiet as a dead mans ship. Karissa stayed in her quarters meditating the entire way back to Ossus. Her arrival on Ossus was nothing like the first time. Everyone seemed as solemn and sad as she did. Tyria and Karissa entered the Funeral room just before the burning. Karissa knew that she could not sulk about this, and her sister's life force had just returned to the force. But she could not help but feel like she had lost a part of herself at the same time.
